Staying Connected To Your Kindergartner’s School Activities

With the school year well underway, now is the perfect time to make sure you’re connected to your kindergartner’s schooling. From announcements to academic progress, there’s a lot to keep track of, and at St. Barnabas Episcopal school we do our best to make sure you have the inside scoop.
Parent Portal
Our parent portal is the key to keeping up with your student’s academic progress. With information on grades as well as upcoming assignments, you can make sure your student stays on track. Calendars, class information, teacher contact info, supply lists, and more are available through this portal. Using this tool will keep you organized and help you to avoid any surprises.

Being proactive is one of your important jobs as a parent, so make sure you always reach out to your child’s teachers with any questions or concerns as they arise. All of our teachers and administrators have their email addresses available on the parent portal, and you can always give us a call.

Seesaw
Some of our teachers have used the popular app Seesaw in the past, but this year we’re implementing it across all of our Kindergarten classes. This digital portfolio allows you to view any of your child’s work that is shared through the app. Pictures, videos, and more allow you to view the work products your child creates and track their progress on a deeper level than is provided by grades alone. Teachers can even use it to send announcements and reminders to parents like yourself and further foster open lines of communication.

In their kindergarten classes, your student has an assigned buddy that will help them take pictures and videos with their ipad, but you’re the only one that can see your child’s portfolio. Your child’s teacher provides you with an invitation, and it is only through that invitation that anyone has access to the portfolio they created. If you download the Seesaw app to your phone, you can receive notifications any time your child or their teacher posts something.

If you aren’t able to volunteer at the school, through groups such as the Parent Advisory Council, interacting through Seesaw can help you feel more connected to both the school as a whole and your child’s class. Seeing your child in their classroom environment sharing the work they’ve created can also help steer your conversations after school and create a deeper connection with your student.

Engaged parents are the key to successful students. That’s why we always do our best to create avenues and opportunities for communication and collaboration between our school, parents, and the community. Contact us today to learn more about our school or to schedule a tour of our facilities.
