Uniform Shopping Do’s & Dont’s

Yahoo! It’s sum…sum…summer time! I know you don’t want to think about uniform shopping now, but we thought you would appreciate knowing that the Used Uniforms Sales are Friday, July 29, 2011 & Friday, August 12, 2011 from 2:30 to 5:30 PM in the Harwood Center.

  • All new uniform clothing needs to be purchased at Four Townes Embroidery. Shop early so you can order special sizes or styles if needed. The Snyder’s at Four Townes are very accommodating and will help you find the right fit.
  • Remember white socks are required. When wearing the khaki uniform, your child must wear white socks only.
  • A belt is required every day if there are loops available. If your child is forgetful, have them pack an extra belt in their backpack.
  • Refresh yourself and your child with the expected dress code. Look at page B-17 in the Student Handbook. If you don’t have a handbook yet, please visit our handbook and forms page.

Dress code regarding shoes:

All white, low-cut canvas, vinyl, or leather sneaker, or brown leather rubber-soled tie shoe (moccasin style, such as a Docksider); or a brown leather tie or buckle shoe. Students may not wear brown or black suede sneakers or wear bulky athletic shoes with colored advertisements on them. Shoes must be tied appropriately on the top of the shoe at all times.

Here are common questions that we receive regarding shoes:

  • Can I wear any type of athletic shoes on P.E. day?
Yes, as long as it ties and is not too bulky to participate in a safe manner.
  • If I choose to wear white athletic shoes with my school uniform, do they need to be solid white?
    Yes.
  • Can my school shoes have a colored logo on them?
No, the logo must be white. For example, a solid white Nike shoe with a red “swoosh” is not okay. An Etnie sneaker with a colored, plaid, or designed logo is not okay. A DC sneaker with a colored or designed “DC” is not okay.
  • Can I wear Sperry’s?
Yes, as long as they are leather and are brown or beige in color and do not have other designs or colors on them.
  • If the athletic shoe I want has just a little colored line around the sole or near the laces, is this okay?
No. Is it solid white? If not, then it does not adhere to the dress code.
  • What happens if I purchased inappropriate shoes?
You will have one reminder that your shoes do not comply with uniform requirements, and then the student will be sent home to remedy the situation.
  • I went shopping with my mom and we can’t find all white shoes.
What do I do? Look again and please adhere to the dress code. There are many white shoes available.

Remember to have fun shopping and if you can’t decide if something meets the dress code, put it down and keep shopping. Also, the Used Uniform Sale at school offers a lot of clean, quality uniforms at very reasonable prices.
